Every week I have the absolute pleasure, and honour, of visiting my parents in their retirement village on Australia’s beautiful Sunshine Coast. The time I get to spend with my parents is precious within itself, but then the opportunity to meet with other all the souls in this community is an extra bonus.
When I look into their beautiful faces and see the years of experience and the lines of wisdom on their faces, I’m honoured to be in their presence. I also wonder have they told their story? Have they lived the life that they want to live? Have they lived their dreams? (more…)
We all like to buy from people we know, like and trust … part of building trust quickly is to write testimonials that share real stories of how we have helped others. Testimonials are powerful selling tools that are often overlooked on the path to growing your business. If you want to build credibility, really engage your customers and show them what’s like to work with you then write testimonials that showcase the success you create for others.
“Hindsight is the most powerful teacher” – so my parents said and it’s so true when it comes to starting a business. So this week I wanted to share with you 10 things I wish I’d known when I started out in business.
If you’re looking to start a business, or you’re feeling stuck in your business right now – feel free to borrow some of my hindsight. Starting a business is one of the most exhilarating experiences we can have. It can also be exhausting. Reading this post might save you hours, weeks or months of time and effort.
What if getting to know your ideal customer, as well as you know your best friend, could save you time and precious marketing dollars, help you help more people and grow your business? Often in the rush to jump on the next “big thing” … like how to use Snapchat or build a following on a new platform … we can overlook a simple strategy that will pay dividends for the long term. So what is the strategy exactly?
The idea of selling is something that leaves many people feeling cold – but if we want to get more customers we need to be able to do it in a way that feels right for us. We need to say no! to those “icky” feelings of awkwardness that come up around the word selling. So how do we do it? How can we sell authentically … in a way that feels aligned with who we are as heart-centred entrepreneurs who want to get out there and make a big change in the world?
Welcome to our series on how to get unstuck in your business so you can get more sales and customers for your business – authentically. I know what it’s like to feel stuck and spinning your wheels in business. Maybe you’ve spent a lot of money already and still, you’re not making the sales you want to make. Perhaps you feel like you’re making some progress but still feel like you’re walking knee-deep in mud. Oh … and those dreams you had about making a difference and helping a lot of people … do they feel like they’re a very long way away right now?
Have you taken all the steps to launching your business, yet there’s still something holding you back? Perhaps it’s a tech issue or your logo isn’t quite right? And once you think you’ve solved the issue you find another that pushes your schedule back another couple of weeks. What if the one that’s holding you back from your success is you?
Have you ever been in a large crowd at a concert with friends and tried to get their attention so you could go closer to the stage? With all of the noise from the crowd and the band, it was tough huh? Even though you’re close friends it can be hard to be heard through all of the noise and activity. Well, it can be the same with your offer. Maybe you have a great offer and are passionate about bettering your customer’s lives – but sometimes they don’t respond amidst all of the other noise in the marketplace? Unless your call to action is clear and compelling enough it can be hard for them to focus on you.
Have you ever had a coffee with a friend who wanted to talk about themselves … constantly… and never once asked you anything about you? It was all about them right? Frustrating and a turn-off? Did you feel like catching up again or did the thought of it turn you off … and overtime did the friendship drift apart?
Well the same principle applies with marketing – although this time the shoe could be on the other foot.
Have you ever been to a networking event, or on a discovery call with a prospective client, and you wished the floor would open up and swallow you? I know I have and it all came down to how I handled the first 8 seconds of the interaction.
“8 seconds?” I hear you say … “Is that all?”
Yes! We only have 8 seconds to make an impression on someone! Research tells us that within the first seconds of meeting someone new our brains make significant decisions about that person’s character. In a flash, we evaluate a person’s trustworthiness, credibility, confidence and overall likeability. (more…)
